Bad Day

Things That Have Conspired Against Me In The Last Two Days:
-After two months of work I'm still missing my paycheck for my first week, HR can't resolve it until my supervisor is back next week.
-Computer went on the fritz again, leading me to spend four hours of my day off on the phone with India.
-Couldn't find anyone to go to an AMAZING concert with me, and by the time I decided to go stag the show was sold out.
-Most frustrating day of work I've had yet decided to make an appearance.
-Foreseeable yet inevitable overbooking and upsetting friends during the holiday season.

But you know what happened? I turned on the radio to soothe my nerves, and since it's been that kind of week every station was either a commercial or crap rock. In frustration I tuned into my last-resort station and to my JOYOUS surprise they're already spreading the holiday cheer! I couldn't believe it, but it was just what I needed.

And because it's been that kind of week the first song was something sort of icky, but when it ended? NAT KING COLE. Chestnuts were roasting and I wanted to cry because my favorite song was being played weeks earlier then it should be. It was exactly what I needed. It was a pat on the shoulder and a kiss on the forehead letting me know that while today may have been doodoo, tomorrow will be better.

I went straight to my iTunes (computer fixed!) and put together my Christmas playlist, and it's been playing all night. I know I'm early, I know people hate when the holidays start right after Halloween, I know that it doesn't snow in the Bay Area, but I DON'T CARE. I love Christmas. I LOVE IT! And there couldn't have been a more perfect or more necessary moment for me to start thinking like Buddy the Elf. Sometimes you just need that reminder, something to tell you that it's okay, someone's got your back. I still didn't like the last two days, but I feel better about tomorrow because the universe wants me to.
